About the pieces
What makes Emerald Swift pieces different?
Every Emerald Swift piece is designed and made by me in my small studio in Germany. I combine embroidery, textiles, illustration and other traditional craft techniques to create useful objects with an artistic character.
I work in small quantities rather than mass-producing large collections. I choose the materials, develop the designs, create the embroidery and assemble and finish each piece myself.
Because of this, small variations in stitching, fabric, colour or finish may occur. These are natural characteristics of handmade work — and part of what makes each piece individual.
How are your handmade pieces made?
My pieces often start with an image, photograph or visual idea. I frequently use photographs I have taken myself, but I also draw inspiration from images I find online. Depending on the project, I may edit, combine or transform these references using graphic design software and AI tools to explore ideas and create a visual starting point for my design.
For embroidered pieces, I then turn the chosen artwork into a digital embroidery design. Using embroidery software, I create a machine-readable file that defines the stitches, colours and other details needed by my embroidery machine.
I select the fabric, stabilizer and threads for each design, taking into account the look and construction of the finished piece. The embroidery is then stitched on my embroidery machine.
After the embroidery is complete, I cut, sew and assemble the piece, adding any additional elements and finishing details by hand.
The finished item is therefore a combination of my own design work, digital preparation, machine embroidery and hands-on sewing and finishing — all completed by me in my studio in Germany.
Will my item look exactly like the photos?
I make every effort to photograph my pieces accurately, but colours may look slightly different depending on your screen, lighting and photography conditions.
Most of my pieces are made in very small batches, and each one is individually finished. Small variations in embroidery, fabric placement, stitching or other details may therefore occur between pieces. These are natural characteristics of a handmade item and do not affect its quality or function.
If you purchase a one-of-a-kind piece, the item you see in the photographs is the exact piece you will receive.
Is free shipping available?
Yes! Free shipping is available for all orders over 150 EUR worldwide when using the standard shipping option. This applies to the final order total, including any discounts. (For example, if you’ve applied a discount, you’ll need to add additional items to reach the 150 EUR threshold after the discount is applied.)
If you have any questions about your order or shipping options, feel free to reach out!
What materials do you use?
I choose materials based on the type and purpose of each piece. Depending on the product, these may include natural and blended fabrics, embroidery threads, stabilizers, cork, paper, wood and other carefully selected components.
I provide specific material and product safety information for each item where relevant. You can find the details on the individual product page and on my Product Safety Information page.
Because materials and components vary from one product to another, please check the individual product description for the exact materials used in the piece you are interested in.
Ordering
Are handmade items ready to ship?
Most of my ready-to-buy handmade pieces are made in advance and are ready to be packed and shipped once you place your order.
I make my pieces in very small batches, so availability can be limited. If an item is currently out of stock, it will be clearly marked on the product page when it is expected to become available again.
Personalized and custom pieces are made to order and require additional processing time. Please see the product description for the estimated processing time.
Can I personalize an item?
Some products can be personalized, and this will always be clearly indicated on the individual product page.
Ready-made pieces cannot be personalized once they have been completed. The embroidery is created before the final sewing and assembly of the piece, so additional personalization cannot normally be added afterwards.
If you have an idea for a personalized version of an existing design, you are welcome to contact me before ordering. Where possible, I can create a personalized piece based on the original design.
Personalized and custom pieces are subject to availability and may require additional processing time. I will confirm the details and estimated timeline with you before I start.
Do you accept custom requests?
Custom work is not currently a main part of my studio, partly because the capabilities of my embroidery machine limit the types and scale of designs I can produce.
However, I am happy to discuss individual personalized pieces or adaptations of existing designs. If you have an idea, please contact me before placing an order so we can see what is possible.
I am also open to discussing larger or group orders. For these, please contact me with your requirements, and I will let you know what I can offer.
Do you offer gift wrapping?
Yes, I can prepare your order as a gift.
My gift wrapping includes suitable packaging and, if you wish, a short personal note. If the gift is being sent directly to the recipient, please let me know when placing your order and provide the details needed for delivery.
For a specific gift-wrapping request or a personal message, please contact me by email before placing your order.

Caring for your piece
How do I care for embroidered/fabric items?
Care instructions may vary depending on the materials and finishing details of each piece. Please always check the product description for any specific care instructions.
As a general rule, embroidered and fabric items should be handled gently:
- Hand wash at up to 30°C whenever possible. Gentle machine washing at up to 30°C may be suitable for some items — please check the individual product instructions.
- Do not use bleach, harsh detergents or strong stain removers.
- If machine washing, use a gentle cycle with minimal spinning.
- Do not tumble dry.
- Reshape the item and dry flat whenever possible.
- Gentle ironing is usually fine, but avoid placing high heat or direct pressure on the embroidery.
Strong washing, heat or mechanical agitation can distort the embroidery, damage decorative elements, cause colour changes, or create unwanted creases in fabrics such as linen.
If a piece contains wooden elements, avoid soaking it for a long time. If it contains paper or other water-sensitive elements, do not immerse or wash it in water at all.
Please always check the product description and the care instructions included with your order.
How do I care for paper or bookbinding pieces?
Paper and bookbinding pieces should be protected from excessive moisture, heat and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- Do not soak or submerge paper components in water.
- Fabric or other wipe-clean covers may be gently cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, depending on the materials used.
- Avoid harsh detergents, excessive rubbing and prolonged exposure to moisture.
- Store paper items in a book sleeve or protective cover when possible, especially when carrying them in a bag.
Specific care instructions may vary depending on the materials and construction of each piece. Please check the product description and the care instructions included with your order.
Protective book sleeves are also available in my shop and can help keep your book or handmade cover protected during everyday use.
